When plans were announced to hold the “Jalex Select” heifer sale with 54 hand picked in calf commercial heifers, there was fierce interest as one thing was assured, quality was going to be of the very highest order.

Pre-sale viewing days were very busy and the online sale which was ran in tandem with registered ringside buyers surpassed all expectations with sale prices topping at £9000. This was paid for the former show winner “Queen Bea” who James had secured at the Welsh Winter Fair. Bidding was brisk for this lady with the hammer falling to leading showman Robert Millar, Moneymore.

For those that had studied the sale interactive catalogue featuring both photos and videos, without doubt the most impressive feature of the Select listings was the uniform quality right from start to finish. This was reflected in the tremendous average of £3092 for 54 lots. In total 41 heifers were snapped up for export to UK and Ireland. These included a number purchased by Ben Whiting, Essex, who had some eye catching heifers on his shopping list including lots at £5500, £5000 and £3900.

Such was the interest in the days leading up the sale a further batch of 23 heifers were added in for sale, and were further added to on sale day by request from buyers in attendance. These 44 heifers returned an average of £2111.

The Alexander family thank all those who bid and purchased cattle.

Thanks also to Richard Beattie and all those who assisted in preparing for the sale.
