The event will focus on harvesting silage and reducing silage slippage,” confirmed InTouch specialist Aislínn Campbell.

“A range of topics will be discussed, including: the importance of cutting date,  mowing heights, wilting times and the actual compacting of silage in the clamp.”

She continued;“A growing problem that I have seen on-farm over the last number of years is that of silage clamp slippage. This has a detrimental impact in terms of waste and also the speed at which the farmer has to use that particular clamp.

Dave Davies will cover this issue and will also discuss how best to avoid it from happening in the first place.”

According to the InTouch representative, at least 50% of the feeds offered to ruminant livestock contain grass and or silage. She further explained:“Delivering top quality silage to our animals is of utmost importance especially if farmers want to achieve their targets and goals for production.

“With feed prices set to remain high for the rest of the year, efficiency on farm will be key and maximising performance from forage will be vital to farm profitability.

“Examining many silage samples taken last year shows a vast array of results ranging from poor to excellent.

“The core objective of the three webinars is to help everyone to improve their silage quality for 2021.

“With this in mind, we have teamed-up with independent silage expert Dr. Dave Davies, from Silage Solutions Ltd, to deliver the current webinar series.”
