Support for Bill to make ANC Payment a legal requirement

Farmers For Action have responded positively to the consultation on the Private Members Bill put forward by Agricultural Committee Chairman Declan McAleer MLA to make Areas of Natural Constraint Payments a legal requirement.

FFA have always acknowledged that hill farmers will continue to need support.

In a statement FFA said: “NI’s hill farmers can’t continue to produce top quality beef and lamb for lowland farmers to finish without support, nor can the tourist industry expect to drive, view and enjoy all aspects of Northern Ireland’s stunning uplands without hill farming families and communities continuing to do what they do so well!”

William Taylor, FFA stated: “No longer can hill farmers go forward and pass on their generational skills without the certainty which the ANC Bill would give and in addition fits in perfectly with NI Farm Groups Northern Ireland Farm Welfare Bill currently with the Agriculture Committee.

“The Committee should soon deliver their verdict on whether to take the Farm Welfare Bill forward as scrutiny continues with more progress expected in May!”
