UFU meet Scottish Cabinet Secretary

Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) deputy president Victor Chestnutt, UFU rural affairs chairperson Jennifer Hawkes and UFU legislation and rural affairs policy officer Lorraine McKnight, recently travelled to Glasgow to meet with Fergus Ewing MSP the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for rural economy.

Mr Ewing is also the joint co-chairperson of the Scottish Government’s Women in Agriculture Taskforce. During November 2019 the UFU hosted their first Women in Agriculture conference and were delighted that Joyce Bannerman-Campbell, a sheep farmer from Sutherland Scotland, was able to address delegates at the conference as one of two keynote speakers. Joyce also holds the role of joint co-chairperson of the Scottish Government’s Women in Agriculture Taskforce.

Although conversations with Mr Ewing involved the work of the Women’s Taskforce, other topics on the agenda included food exports, marketing and domestic consumption of Northern Ireland produce. All in all, the meeting was a success and has opened the door for further discussions at a later date.
