‘Time to end academic selection’ says O’Dowd

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd, speaking after his party motion in the assembly passed, said it’s time to end academic selection.
“It’s welcome that Sinn Fein’s motion to end academic selection passed in the Assembly.

Hide Ad“We have called on the Education Minister to put in place a process to end academic selection.


“The problems faced in the controlled sector in Lurgan can be directly linked to the ongoing protection of the outdated Dickson plan which is just another crude form of academic rejection.
“All the evidence shows, including the most recent report from Ulster University, that academic selection damages children.
“For that reason it should end now, and we look forward to the Minister taking the right decision and taking it as soon as possible.”
