Call for cancer recovery plan after ‘concerning’ waiting time statistics

Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley who is a member of the NI Assembly’s Health Committee, said the statistics for October, November and December 2020 are concerning.
He said: “They further emphasise the sustained disruptions on cancer services, and I am particularly concerned for the impact this is having on treatment within the Southern Trust.

Hide Ad“The pandemic and subsequent restrictions have undoubtedly exacerbated waiting times with the redirection of services and workforce challenges.


“These statistics place a spotlight on the urgent need for a cancer recovery plan with a priority on improving waiting times and addressing the backlogs to each screening, diagnostic and treatment services.
“Behind each of these statistics is a person facing a tragic, uncertain and in some cases fatal diagnosis, and my heart goes out to all those suffering at this time.”
