The clever new home gadget that could help households save more on energy bills

A new home battery has launched in the UK promising to make solar power storage simpler, smaller and more accessible for households.
EcoFlow, a global smart home energy storage company, has unveiled its new STREAM Series in the UK, with the company aiming to make home battery technology more accessible to millions of households.
Launched under the banner "Solar Savings, Made Simple", the new range is designed to help homeowners store more of the energy generated by their solar panels and use it when they need it most.
As more households turn to solar panels and look for ways to manage electricity costs, EcoFlow says homeowners are increasingly looking for energy storage systems that are not only powerful, but practical and easy to integrate into everyday life.
Justin Tilley, Channel Lead, UK&E at EcoFlow, said: "The transition to smarter home energy shouldn't be reserved for early adopters.
"Homeowners want to get more from their solar investment, but they also want technology that's simple to understand, easy to integrate into their home and built to grow with them.
“STREAM has been designed to deliver exactly that."
The tiny battery with plenty of power
At the heart of the new range is a compact 5kWh battery weighing just 45kg - roughly the size of a cabin bag.
Despite its relatively small footprint, STREAM is designed to power many of the appliances households use every day, including washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers.
The STREAM 5000 offers up to 3,000W AC output and 5,000W of solar input across four MPPTs.
EcoFlow says the system is up to 40 per cent smaller than comparable solutions, meaning it can be installed in spaces such as garages and utility rooms without sacrificing power.
The company is pitching the system as a way for households to make better use of the solar energy they generate during the day, rather than relying on that energy only when the sun is shining.
It can grow with your home
The STREAM Series isn't designed as a one-size-fits-all system.
Customers can start with a single 5kWh battery, professionally installed by a certified electrician, before adding additional storage if their energy requirements increase.
With the EcoFlow STREAM Gateway, the system can also expand into a wider home energy setup, supporting growing demands such as EV charging and heat pumps.
Larger configurations are possible too, although these will depend on the appropriate installation and grid-connection requirements.

No internet? No problem
EcoFlow has also introduced several features designed to make STREAM more reliable in everyday use.
Its new Local Mode, which will be available from September, allows the system to continue operating and remain locally controllable if the internet connection goes down.
The system also comes with IP65 weather protection, a multi-layer safety architecture, a battery lifespan of up to 15 years, 10,000 charging cycles and a 10-year warranty.
"People don't buy watts - they buy confidence," added Justin.
"They want to know they can power the appliances they use every day, make better use of the solar energy they're generating, and invest in a system that will continue to meet their needs in the years ahead.
“STREAM has been designed to make that possible."
How much does it cost?
The STREAM Series is available for pre-order from today, August 21.
The early bird prices are:
- STREAM 5000 — £1,599
- STREAM AC 5000 — £1,499
