It’s the end of an era as the demolition of former Denny’s factory site in Portadown gets underway.

Sinn Féin Cllr Paul Duffy, said demolition work at the site started on Monday and he wanted to alert residents of increased traffic in the area.

“Lorry’s and heavy machinery will use the main gate on the Corcrain Rd but work will be limited from 9am to 5pm as this is a residential area.

“Over a period of 18 weeks, McCusker Demolition Ltd will complete the demolition, initially focusing on the inside of the buildings to remove any harmful material.

“The site was a big employer in the area since 1935 using farmers’ livestock and producing Denny’s sausages and bacon, which are global sensations. The Kerry Group then bought it over. I worked in the factory for a number of years myself and have plenty of good memories and friends from my time there.”

Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council bought the site four years ago for a reported £480k.
