Mid Down UFU Group – busy winter programme and plans ahead
The Mid Down Group has enjoyed a very busy and well-supported winter programme, with strong attendance at events and great engagement from members across the area.
A particular highlight was our recent visit to Walter Watson’s engineering and agricultural machinery business. It was incredible to see first-hand the scale, efficiency and professionalism of the operation. The visit provided a valuable insight into one of our leading local Agri machinery suppliers and showcased the strength of businesses within our own community. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the team at Walter Watson’s for their warm hospitality and for taking the time to host such an informative and enjoyable visit.
Alongside this, we were pleased to run a Financial Services seminar in partnership with NFU Mutual, focusing on inheritance tax and future planning. This was a highly relevant and informative session for our members, offering practical guidance and highlighting the importance of planning ahead in an increasingly complex area.
We were also delighted to welcome Gillian Cheatley, our Technical Officer to the local office, where she held a clinic for members. This provided an excellent opportunity for one-to-one discussions, allowing members to raise queries and receive guidance in person. The feedback from those who attended was extremely positive, and we appreciate Gillian taking the time to support our group.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to be organising a group trip for Mid Down members to the Royal Highland Show, taking place from 18th–20th June. This promises to be a fantastic few days, and we would encourage anyone interested to contact the local office to register their interest. Plans are also underway for our summer BBQ, which will provide another great opportunity for members to come together socially. Further details will be shared soon, so please keep an eye out.
If you would like to get involved in upcoming events or stay informed, we would strongly encourage members to contact the local office to ensure they are registered for text message updates. This is the best way to keep up to date with everything happening across the Mid Down Group.
As always, we thank all our members for their continued support and look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.
