The widow of a biker, who died in a tragic crash in Co Armagh last week, is due to give birth to their second child just weeks after his death.

According to the fundraiser, the young widow of Vilmantas Mazeike arrived on the scene of the two vehicle crash in Tandragee’s Market St soon after it happened.

The NI Ambulance Service as well as the Air Ambulance attended the scene on March 7. Mr Mazeike was rushed to hospital but did not survive.

At the time Inspector Gordon said: “Shortly before 4:35pm, it was reported that a motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux were involved in the collision. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital, but sadly passed away following his injuries.”

The fundraising page has already raised just over £5,000.

A JustGiving page, set up by Tandragee local Colin Hillis, said: “On Sunday 7th March, many in our local town of Tandragee witnessed the tragic events/aftermath of a road traffic collision involving a motorbike.

“Many witnessed the victim’s family arriving on the scene and were deeply saddened by what they saw.

“The victim of the RTC (Vilmantas Mazeike) sadly passed away of his injuries and he leaves a pregnant wife and young daughter.

“The new baby is due to arrive in just a few weeks and it is hard to imagine how difficult this time will be for the grieving family.

“The funds from this page will go directly and wholly to Rita Mazeike to help with funeral-related costs and costs associated with the arrival of her baby.

“Please give as generously as you can, but any amount helps! Remember that you can opt to donate anonymously if that is your wish. Paul Berry, who is an independent councillor from Tandragee will confirm that the money is sent wholly to Rita Mazeike.”

Mr Hillis, who set up the page, declined to be interviewed. He feels the focus should be on those who kindly donated to this grieving family in their hour of need.
