Running 10k every day for charity is no mean feat but an NI man wanted to raise money to help those struggling with mental health issues through the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was Day 20 in October when I spoke to 30-year-old Co Armagh man Michéal Laverty and already he had ran 200km to raise money for Action Mental Health.

The fit Maghery man was inspired to help raise money for Action Mental Health because he was aware of many people he knew struggling through the pandemic.

Michéal said: “A lot of people are going through mental health issues and anxiety. Some are losing their jobs and others are worried about the future, if they can pay the mortgage or not.”

The former chef has just started a new job with KN Group as an telecoms engineer.

After spending 10 years travelling the world as a chef, to many exotic locations such as South American, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and London, he decided to retrain and started a new job this week.

Michéal, who has returned home to his native Maghery, is a former pupil at St Mary’s PS and Dungannon Integrated School.

“I wanted to raise awareness and to help people who have or will have mental health issues when the COVID has gone,” said Michéal. If you would like to donate, here is the link:
