While many industries are struggling to stay afloat due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the delivery business has enjoyed a welcome boost.

Since lockdown was imposed back in March, thousands of people turned to online shopping in place of in-store visits, as well as shunning restaurants in favour of at home delivery.

The increased demand for takeaways ahead of dining out has marked a positive shift for Deliveroo, with the firm now in need of thousands more staff.

15,000 new riders

Deliveroo is looking for 15,000 new riders and drivers to join its ranks by the end of the year, as demand for its services continues to grow.

The food delivery firm has been expanding fast since lockdown first came into force, prompting 11,500 new restaurants to sign up for its services, while several other major brands extended their partnerships.

This year has seen the company partner with Aldi, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer to help customers get groceries delivered to their door, alongside the popular chains, including Nando’s, Pret, Co-op and Morrisons.

The boom in business has meant increased work for its riders, with 15,000 being recruited since the start of the pandemic.

And with demand still high, the firm is now looking for thousands more people to get involved. The aim is to create 15,000 new job opportunities by the end of this year.

How do I apply?

The delivery firm said its riders earn well above the national minimum wage on average, with some making as much as £120 per day.

Deliveroo has said it will only work with new riders in parts of the country where there is sufficient customer demand to ensure earning levels stay high.

All Deliveroo riders are self-employed, meaning they have the freedom to choose which shifts they work so as to fit it around their personal schedule. However, the company has been criticised in the past for not supplying their employees with benefits such as sick leave and holiday pay.
