The full Love Evolved update patch notes with new items and challenges for Ark's Valentine's event 2020

A new update to the popular survival game Ark: Survival Evolved is bringing players a fresh sprinkling of Valentine's Day-themed content.

In Ark: Survival Evolved, players must survive being stranded on an island filled with roaming dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, natural hazards, and potentially hostile human players.

The 'Love Evolved' update is much lighter in content than previous seasonal events - it was only announced at the last minute in response to developers Studio Wildcard pushing back the release of big new Genesis expansion - but still has some interesting additions.

Here's everything you need to know about it:

What does the Love Evolved event involve?

During the event "Coelacanth will be fishing for some love" says Studio Wildcard.

What that means, is that if you reel in the amorous fish, you'll be showered in candies, chocolates and chibi pets - of which there are six new ones added.

That might sound like a bit of a tedious task, but at least you'll be rewarded well for your efforts.

Breeding rates have been raised to 3x (that includes the mating interval rate, egg hatch speed and maturation), player XP rates to 2x, and harvesting rates have been increased to 2x.

There's a new emote available in the form of the 'Flirt' emote, and new items added to the game include the 'Cupid Couture Bottom', the 'Cupid Couture Top', the 'Halo Headband', 'Teddy Bear Grenades', the 'Bow & Eros', and the 'Love Shackles'.

The Wild Event Creature Colours for this event are, Red, Magenta, Light Red, and White.

On top of that, Valentine Chocolates can be used to heal your tames or provide a big boost in acquiring new tames, while Candies can be used to give a tamed dinosaur a random colouring.

When does the Love Evolved event take place?

Love Evolved has been live in-game since Tuesday 11 February, and will run for a week, until Tuesday 18 February.

What is Ark: Survival Evolved?

In Ark: Survival Evolved, playing as either a man or a woman, you awake "naked, freezing and starving" on a mysterious island, and must hunt, harvest, craft items, grow crops, and build shelters to survive.

Played from either a third-person or first-person perspective, the open world is navigated on foot or by riding a prehistoric animal, and players can use weapons to defend against hostile humans and creatures, with the ability to build bases as defence.

While things start of prehistorically themed, progressing through the game allows you to unlock new Tech Levels, which bring in ever more futuristic items and weapons.

The game saw its first full release in August 2017 on PC, but is now available across a range of gaming platforms, including PS4, Xbox, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.

Within a month of its early access release on digital PC game distribution service Steam, Ark had sold over one million copies.

It is now estimated to have sold nearly eight million copies worldwide, across all available platforms.

The game's upcoming 'Genesis' expansion will allow players to "further the Ark story line" while adventuring through unique and diverse biomes, and introduces an all new mission-based game mechanic.
