Aidan '˜Treds' to success at Tyrella

Once again, Adam Stevenson created four superbly educational tracks for all classes.

Tredstep owner, Aidan Keogh had a very successful return trip to the north with two horses. He claimed top position in the O/CNC2* with the George Mernagh bred Kings Master gelding, Master Tredstep, having led the field from beginning to end, finishing over eight points clear of nearest rival, Heidi Hamilton on her Luidam gelding, Dam Easy.

Aidan settled for the runner-up spot in the CNC2* class with his eight year old Lord Noble mare, Pride of Tredstep, which finished marginally behind Declan Cullen and his seven year old Glenhill Gold gelding, Seavaghan Ash, on whom he has been having great successes recently.

Sligo solicitor and part time farmer, Donnacha Anhold, who was making his debut appearance at Tyrella, made it a day to remember by picking up the win in the O/CNC1* class on board his Hanoverian bred gelding, AP Topstar. Toby Purce also gave a good account of himself and Stan from Meelin by taking second spot on his first outing in this class.

A very large one star entry required a division of class that saw Rory O’Hare from Dunbyrne Stud in Naas, taking centre stage in the ‘A’ section with a seven-point advantage after dressage on DBS Anchorman, a seven-year-old French Buffet gelding. Sarah Ennis, who also had a very successful day, took second place with Duke of Chester and fourth place with Alshmemi, divided only by Harold Megahey and Cornascriebe Glenpatrick.

The ‘B’ section was headed by Neil Morrison and Black Ice, a six year old gelding by Vechta, owned by Caroline Dennison and bred by Judith McClelland. The combination finished exactly one point clear of Jonathan Hagan and Aim High.

Week after week, the CNCJ1* class, is getting more and more competitive and this week was no exception.

The top honours went to sixteen year old Co Kildare student, Alex Power, on TLB Interactive who added just two cross country time penalties to his excellent dressage score which left him one and a half points clear of Ella Boyle and Candy 737 who is also having great success already this season. Another busy rider, currently enjoying great success is Gilford’s Matthew Johnston who took third place with Hi Happy Harry, an eight-year-old gelding by Porsch, owned by Terry Johnston.

Victory in the Pony 2* class went to Isabelle Comerford and Colour Me Fancy who benefitted from some time faults across country being awarded to the early leader, Abbie Lucey who had to settle for third place with Woodfield Clover Joker. Sophie Foyle, from Kilcullen, Co Kildare, now a regular competitor at Tyrella, took second and fourth spots.

There were just five starters in the CNC1* Amateur class where Florence Campbell certainly made her presence felt, taking the top two placings. The red rosette went to Imperial Master, her Master Imp gelding while reserve place went to Anvil Diamond.

The EI 100 Amateur class saw all eighteen starters successfully complete with an absolutely delighted Caroline McQuillan topping the leaderboard and leading throughout after a sub twenty dressage score with the Porch gelding, Foxtail Orchid. Leah Jackson followed in behind by a whisker on her fabulously talented Cyrano mare, Gemilly and Lucy Hanna, on the Rockvale Stud-bred mare, Rock Babylon, took third place.

Emily McQuade from Trim, Co Meath, added nothing to her impressive first phase mark to win the EI 100 Pony class with Twilight Oscar with Lucy Johnston also maintaining a clean sheet in both jumping phases to tuck in behind in second place on Tynan Mist.

Hannah Blakely continued her good form in the E 100 Junior class with her mother’s six year old Newmarket Jewel mare, Sportsfield Ruby, after the early leader, Justine Harding, made the sensible decision to go easy across the country with Charissma following an earlier accident, picking up some resultant time penalties. A previous winner, Ryan Truesdale, took second with Lowhill Tick Tock. Tori Voller was deservedly delighted with her third placing on the Gina Johnston bred mare, Juniper Hill.

Twenty nine strong contenders battled it out in the EI 100 class where five of the top six placings went to Southern-based members. Taking top spot was Bethany Burton from Co Wicklow with the Cooley Farm’s TKS Cooley who was just a fraction ahead of Luke Drea on his six-year-old Pacino gelding, Gorsehill Horatio. Catherine Robinson was third on Neil McCluskey’s Carsonstown Calypso.

Judith McCarthy returned to winning form in the EI90 Amateur class with her very experienced and much loved skewbald gelding, Mixed Up, who led the field of sixteen from start to finish in a class where Aaron McCusker’s show jumping tracks were very influential. A delighted Ailsa Martin took the runner up spot on Grateful For Gold, a combination that have been in the top six placings on all outings this year.

The early Intro leader, Luke Drea, was forced to move down a spot after lowering a coloured pole, which paved the way to success for Emma Lappin riding Jan Lappin’s gelding, Bat Out Of Hell in this LAFARGE Tarmac sponsored class of twenty three.

Another combination that has had a super start to their eventing season is Shanie Murphy and Kilbeg Tommy in the EI90P. They won the class, finishing on their dressage score, just over one point ahead of Caitie Slater and Declan Cullen’s lovely grey pony, Leitrim Fi Fi. Hugo O’Neill, who had his family out in force, fence judging, took third place on Silver Fox.
