Carrick View Utah leads Swatragh
Salers females sold to a top of 4,500gns and averaged £4,340 at the Export Show and Sale held at Swatragh on Friday, 23 October 2026, where three of the four cattle forward finding new homes, representing a 75% clearance.
Leading the trade was the reserve overall champion, Carrick View Utah, from G.A. & G.T. McCall, which realised 4,500gns.

The March 2024-born heifer, which had earlier secured first prize in the senior heifer class, is by Orient and out of the French-bred Gardien daughter Lolita.
Utah arrived at Swatragh following a successful summer show season, having secured the Salers championship at Newry Show and reserve championship at Armagh Show. The horned red heifer has been scanned in calf to junior stock bull Sligo Casanova and is due to calve towards the end of February 2027.

Following closely at 4,400gns was the day’s overall and female champion, Drumlegagh Venus, from J. & E.A. Elliott. Venus is a horned daughter of Brookfields Trojan and out of Drumlegagh Oceana, a Drumlegagh Hamish daughter. Her pedigree combines Forez and Brookfields Trixy on the paternal side, while her maternal breeding traces back to Drumlegagh Galaxy.
Venus had earlier stood first in the junior heifer class before being tapped out as overall champion by judge Andrew Kennedy of the Mileview Salers herd, Ballyclare, County Antrim.
Completing the trade at 3,500gns was the second prize junior heifer, Carrick View Veda, another entry from G.A. & G.T. McCall, which was purchased by pedigree breeder Kyle Fleming. Born in April 2025, Veda is another daughter of Orient, this time out of Carrick View Neve, by Fidele. Her maternal granddam is the successful show cow Connemara Riona, a Bronson daughter which remains active in the Carrick View herd, where several of her daughters have been retained for breeding. Veda had been scanned suitable for breeding ahead of the sale.
In the bull section, the male championship went to Ballykeel Vagabond from Mr S. Connell. Born in February 2025, Vagabond is a horned red son of the French sire Mathieu and out of Ballykeel Mademoiselle, a daughter of Jocker. Carrying a strong French pedigree, Vagabond’s sire Mathieu has produced numerous show champions, including the 2026 Royal Highland Show champion. The young bull had been running with pedigree cows ahead of the sale.
Judging duties were undertaken by well-known Salers cattle and Lleyn sheep breeder
Andrew Kennedy, whose Mileview herd is based on a lowland, grass-based farm near
Ballyclare, County Antrim.
The herd comprises predominantly purebred Salers cows, with breeding focused on producing replacement females and a selected number of bulls for breeding, while the remaining progeny are marketed as forward stores. Calving ease, including when crossed with terminal sires, together with good growth rates, remains central to the Mileview breeding programme. Among the herd’s notable achievements are two UK Salers Bull of the Year titles.
