Smudge and Belle hope to find their forever homes

The Dogs Trust Ballymena team is caring for lots of lovely lads and lassies, of all ages, shapes and sizes, who are waiting for their tail-wagging happy ending. Smudge and Belle are two loving pooches currently in the charity’s care, waiting to find their forever families. The pair each have their own individual personalities and needs, and are among the many dogs at the charity’s rehoming centre waiting for a second chance with a loving family.

Two-year-old Smudge, a Lakeland Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier cross, is a curious young dog who loves exploring the world through his nose. He enjoys investigating his surroundings and would thrive in a home where he can explore at his own pace.

Initially, Smudge can be shy when meeting new people, and although he warms up quickly, he is looking for patient and understanding adopters who will give him time to build a bond before he goes home.

Smudge can be reactive towards other dogs when out walking, so quieter walking routes would suit him best, alongside further training to help build his confidence. He is looking for a home where he can be the only pet and enjoy all the attention to himself. He could live with older, dog-savvy teenagers who understand and respect his boundaries. Smudge would also appreciate having company for most of the day, with any time spent alone gradually introduced.

Beautiful Belle

Belle is a five-year-old Springer Spaniel, who adores her people once she has settled into a home and is now searching for a calm, understanding family where she can continue to grow in confidence.

Belle is deaf and can be very shy in unfamiliar surroundings. She takes time to feel comfortable around new people but, once settled, forms strong bonds with those she trusts. She enjoys the simple pleasures in life, including snoozing around the house, playing with her ball and spending time with her foster carers.

Belle needs adopters who appreciate that she will require patience, space and time to settle into family life. As she can find life worrying, and with her inability to hear, she needs someone who can manage situations to help limit this worry. Her foster carers have done a fantastic job helping her overcome some of her nervous behaviours and supporting her weight loss. This progress will need to be continued in her forever home through ongoing training and socialisation. Although, it will be all worth it, to have this special girl as a best friend.

Belle could live with children, although a quieter household would suit her best. She can also live with another dog after successful meetings. With the right support and understanding, Belle has so much love and companionship to offer her new family.

If you have the patience and love to help Belle blossom, please get in touch with the team at Dogs Trust Ballymena.

Dogs Trust Ballymena is open for general browsing on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 12–4pm and by pre-arranged appointments on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Please get in touch with the team if you are interested in adopting Smudge or Belle.
