Danny McLaughlin joins UFU team
Danny McLaughlin has joined the UFU as policy officer for dairy and pigs.
From outside Armoy, Co. Antrim, Danny comes from a dairy farm where he is passionate about working alongside his livestock.
Danny studied Animal Science at the University of Nottingham, which incorporated science with the practicalities of agriculture, allowing him to combine his interests in science with his previous agricultural background. He then continued his studies at Nottingham, working towards a PhD researching antimicrobial resistance in dairy herds.
After returning home to the North Coast, he briefly worked in a lab before joining the UFU as a policy and technical graduate student in July 2023. This was a varied role which introduced him to the work which goes on within the various UFU committees, particularly Rural Affairs and Pork & Bacon, as well as supporting members through the technical service. Danny then returned home to the dairy farm full time.

Danny looks forward to working with the UFU Dairy Committee and once again with the Pork & Bacon Committee, welcoming the opportunity to engage with farmers and stakeholder organisations to address the challenges facing the dairy and pig sectors.
