Give Halloween pumpkins a second life at local turkey farm

With millions of pumpkins set to be bought for Halloween, British turkey farmers across the country are encouraging households to donate any unused pumpkins to their local farms, where turkeys can enjoy them as a seasonal treat.

From 1st - 7th November, Pumpkin Feast Day will see participating turkey farms welcome Halloween pumpkins, giving them a new purpose rather than letting them go to waste. Pumpkins make a nutritious snack for turkeys, offering a fun and practical way to make the most of unused pumpkins.

From Essex and Kent, right down to Cornwall and up to West Midlands, those looking to donate pumpkins can easily find a participating farm nearby. The farmers involved are Kelly Bronze, Scobbiscombe Turkeys, Temple Farm Turkeys, Cottage Farms, Herons Farm, Lower Clopton Farm Shop, Treway Farm Cornish Turkeys and Franklin Farms. Anyone wishing to feed their pumpkin to turkeys should check the individual farms’ websites and Instagram accounts for details of drop-off dates and times.

To comply with regulation, only pumpkins that have been carved or used as displays outdoors, away from food preparation areas, can be donated to feed the turkeys. The turkey farmers would also welcome any leftover pumpkins from supermarkets or food shops.

The Pumpkin Feast Day forms part of a wider campaign celebrating 500 years since turkeys first arrived in the UK, with a collection of British turkey farmers coming together to mark the milestone. The campaign celebrates the bird’s place at the heart of the British Christmas dinner while highlighting the benefits of buying a whole British turkey and making the most of leftovers. From the traditional Christmas roast to sandwiches, curries, and pies, a whole turkey is not only easy to cook, but also offers great value for money.

Make the most of Halloween pumpkins by supporting local turkey farms and giving your squash a second life this November.
